• Hello! Our website (hosted with HostGator) is intermittently throwing an error I can’t find any documentation on. Users are reporting that they get a white screen that just says “error. locked.” in plain black text. There’s no other text or error reporting. It appears to happen with at least Chrome and Safari, but can’t be reliably reproduced on a specific page or at any specific time.

I’ve reverted back to an older version of our site (~3 months old) but the error persists. Additionally, HostGator can’t replicate it so they haven’t been able to help. If you’ve seen anything like this before, I would love to know what might fix it! Thank you!

Please check the error logs on your server for a more specific error message, which may give a clue to why this is happening on your website/server. If you are using cPanel, the following tutorial has more information about the error log in cPanel: How to view cPanel Error logs . If you need help locating them, ask your hosting provider to help you with that.

I see the error… Looks like a Windows error to me. Are you running on a Windows-based server? I can’t see your webserver since that Nginx proxy is in the way. I guess the proxy might be throwing that.

You might try clearing the Proxy cache via your control.

Are you on CPanel or the Plesk control panel?

I’d call the host back and hopefully, you’ll get a support rep who will dig a little deeper this time.

Windows servers give me the hives!

Thanks so much to both of you!

We are running on a Windows-based server (2012) and using cPanel. I’ll try your suggestions and see if they help.

You want to get off that windows server ASAP. Windows is a terrible platform for hosting websites and I was able to recreate that error pretty easily.

When I run the site thru console and check it for errors I’m constantly getting.
