• Hi,

I recently started using your amazing reCAPTCHA plugin and am super happy with it. However, a couple days ago a website-user contacted me regarding an error message that prevented them from submitting a comment.

It seems they were Safari on iOS and are receiving the following error message:
“Error: You have entered an incorrect reCAPTCHA value. Click the BACK button on your browser and try again”

I have reCAPTCHA v3 active and everything seems to be set up correctly. When trying to submit a comment myself, everything worked fine.

How can this issue be resolved?

    Thanks for your help!

    Hi,

Could you please specify, do you use any caching plugins?

Also please try to change reCAPTCHA v.3 complexity and set the necessary value of the “Score” option on the plugin settings page, try to set it to 0.5 or 0.3, and try to pass reCAPTCHA. When the Score option is set to 0 – reCAPTCHA will not block bots, when the Score option is set to 1 – reCAPTCHA will block everyone, that’s why we recommend setting the “Score” to 0.8. You can read more about reCAPTCHA v3 here: https://webmasters.googleblog.com/2018/10/introducing-recaptcha-v3-new-way-to.html.

    Hi,

I don’t use a separate caching plugin, but my hosting provider uses a CDN with edge caching.

The score is set to only 0.5, that’s why I was quite surprised to receive a false positive. So are you assuming that this is really just a false positive? In that case there’s probably not a lot that can be done.

    Hi,

Could you please complete the following steps in order to detect the problem and find its solution:

    1) Activate a default WordPress theme for a while (Twenty Nineteen or Twenty-Twenty) and check if the problem remains.
    2) Deactivate all of your plugins except the reCaptcha plugin and also check if the problem is still present. If it is not, activate the plugins one by one, meanwhile checking, after which plugin activation the problem appears again.
    3) Contact us back with information about the results.

Hi, thanks for getting back to me! Unfortunately, I can’t really do this. As the issue occurred with a live user, I have no way of replicating/testing this myself. So I can’t troubleshoot this on a separate environment. And putting the live page on a different theme and deactivating/activating plugins isn’t until maybe someone sends me a message about having received an error isn’t really an option, as the page gets regular interaction.

I opted to deactivate the plugin for a lack of more convenient solutions and might come back to this issue later. Thanks for your help!

    Hi,

We can also recommend you to change the version of the reCaptcha from Version 3 to Version 2 and check if there will be similar errors.

I’ve been having the same problem. We use the plugin only for Comments. After a user types a “reply comment” and clicks Submit, they get “Error: You have entered an incorrect reCAPTCHA value. Click the BACK button on your browser and try again.” This happens to admins, too. When click BACK, the comment that’s waiting to be submitted is no longer in a box as a Reply – it’s now a new comment.

We tried changing reCaptcha version from 3 to 2 – no change.

The plugin works great to block comment spam but now we’re losing lots of legit commenters. Thanks for any help!

    Hi @nickcorcodilos ,

Please specify which plugin you use with the reCaptcha plugin for the comments form. Please check other plugins that use their own reCaptcha to rule out the possibility of conflict.

Thanks, Andrew. I was using reCaptcha by BestWebSoft. Tried everything – couldn’t get error to stop. As you suggested, I tried a different plugin that also uses Google reCAPTCHA and it works fine: “Advanced noCaptcha & invisible captcha”

    Hi @nickcorcodilos,

We meant that you had to check the plugins that you are already using for the presence of their own reCaptcha keys that could conflict with the reCaptcha by BestWebSoft. But we are glad that you found your own solution.
