    Hello

I have encountered the following error message in my diagnostic systems report:

“The .yml files in the wp-content/plugins/matomo/app/vendor directory are accessible from the internet. This can cause some web security tools to flag your website as suspicious. If you are using Apache, it is probably due to your server configuration disabling the use of .htaccess files. If you are instead using nginx, it is due to your nginx configuration allowing .yml files. You may need to contact your hosting provider to fix this.”

The institution which hosts my WordPress site struggles to provide support. Therefore, I would like to explore if you have any advice to offer to allow me to resolve the error directly. Some of the language in the error message is a little difficult for me to follow on face value as I am not a WordPress developer. However, I am open to being taught, so please feel free to explain anything I might be able to do at my end, including with step-by-step instructions. This would indeed be much appreciated.

    Thank you so much

Hi @margmacd, can you tell me (or ask your hosting provider), what type of web server they are using? Can you also tell me if your hosting provider provides an interface to manage your websites (like cPanel or plesk)?

@margmacd Are you able to answer my previous questions?

    Hi @dizzyatinnocraft

I am sorry that I had been drawn away by other commitments. Thank you for your queries.

I have cPanel access and my WordPress site is hosted by a university.

@margmacd in your cPanel, is there anything you can see that allows you to block access to certain URLs on your website?

Were you able to determine which type of web server your university is using (ie, nginx or apache)?

    Hello @dizzyatinnocraft

Further to this correspondence, I have decided to send a list of logged critical issues and recommended improvements to the host for their consideration.

    All the best!

Hi @margmacd, sorry, I can’t quite tell, but will you still be needing my help after the hosting provider responds? Or should I mark this issue as resolved?

Disregard my last message, I see this is marked as resolved now.
