Error importing images

Some images are not imported. This is not the same problem reported by staffanmelin 6 months ago.

Example error message for one image failure is
[ERROR] Can’t copy https://news.flyingmission.org/news/files/news/newsimgs/Set_up.jpg to /var/www/wpstories/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/Set_up.jpg : Moved Permanently

The link to the image works, although the actual url is https://news.flyingmission.org/files/news/newsimgs/Set_up.jpg. Note removed ‘news’.

I’ve tried changing the image url to the actual, but still doesn’t import.

This is a Drupal 6 site on Centos 6 with PHP 5.6 and MySQL 5.5, porting to fresh latest WordPress on Centos 7 with PHP 7.3 and MariaDB 5.5.
