• I have spent the past 8 hours trying to complete this 5-minute install. I have deleted and redone the install over and over again, following tutorials and instructions where ever I can get them. Ive read through as many of these forums that I can find, but still no luck…

I have edited the config file, uploaded all the files to my server, and still I cannot get WordPress working. I get up to the point of running the install.php file, but then get an HTTP 500 error, Internal Server Error.

The research I have done shows that the this can sometimes happen from themes that need to be removed. Ive tried to log into MyPHPAdmin, but the tables have not been created because the install has not run.

Someone also posted in this forum, for the same problem that happened on an install. This person was able to trace the problem to a syntax error in wp-includes/class-wp-theme.php. Their ISP replaced the file with another, and the problem was solved. I though perhaps my download or unzip didn’t go perfectly, but its not that either. I have traced the source for the class-wp-theme.php and replaced it in the unzipped files, but still no luck. I have downloaded version 4.4.1 and installed, and no luck there either.

Im literally at wits end. I really would appreciate any help you can give me.

the wordpress folder is currently at https://www.headbox.co.za/WP/wp-admin/install.php

Its not a problem with the location either, I have installed it in the root directory, https and one called “Blog” still, no better.

  • Have you gone totally back to square 1 and redone everything?

I would delete your database, delete the db user, then delete the wordpress files in your web root directory. Then recreate the database and user, download the WP files fresh, configure wp-config, upload the files to your web server, and try again.

If you’ve already gone through all that, it’s possible there’s something off in your hosting environment. Can you install it on localhost on your own machine? Or do you have access to a different web server environment?

    Thanks Megunticook,

Yes, ive redone everything from scratch a number of times.

Ive just downloaded and installed wordpress.exe and i managed to get it to install on localhost. But im still not sure how to get it running on the web,

What version of PHP and MySQL is your hosting provider running?

The HTTP 500 Internal Server Error is a server-side error, meaning the problem probably isn’t with your computer or Internet connection but instead is a problem with the web site’s server.

If you are using a .htaccess on your site, it may be interfering with the web page you are trying to load into your browser. Please double check the .htaccess configuration. Any syntax errors will cause a 500 Internal Server Error message to be displayed instead of your website.

There are a couple of reasons this is happening, I may be able to help with it. I just dont want to say what it might be without knowing a little more, just reply if interested, I and I will help you resole it like a pro, if I can’t we will know fast, but I am pretty good at this, would love to see how fast its fixed for you.

AjitKhodke mentiond .htaccess configuration, this could be the case, if you can provide screen shot of it this will help, if you are not sure of how to just let me know so I can help you even faster.
