Error handling font changes. WordPress lack permissions to manage the theme font

    I created a Business Plan site on WP.com and activated the Twenty Twenty-Three theme, installed this plugin (Create Block Theme, then tried to add another Google font and received the error message:

    “Error handling font changes. WordPress lack permissions to manage the theme font.”

    Do I need to create a Child Theme first?

    Hey there! I can replicate the issue on WordPress.com. My guess is that because some WordPress.com themes are only “symlinked” into your site – i.e. their files are not copied over into your site; they are just “pointing” to another spot on the server where the theme is managed from a central location – this is why the plugin can’t create a new font folder within it.

    That said, yes you really should create a child theme before adding fonts to your theme! That way, your fonts will be preserved the next time the theme is updated. If you added fonts to the theme directly, you would lose those changes on every theme update. I just tested these steps and got no permission errors.

    • Created a child theme of TT3 through the plugin
    • Uploaded and activated the child theme zip file
    • Added a Google Font to the TT3 child theme through the plugin
