Hi there! I’ve just tested my front-end event submission form and it returns a HTTP 500 error. I was testing it as a ‘guest’. I also tried submitting while logged in to the admin account, and it returned ‘Trying to perform an illegal action’.

I have recently had trouble removing a caching plugin (it left content in my wp-config/htaccess and still seems to be affecting the site after removal). I’d be really grateful if you could help to establish if this is the problem, or if it as something else. The link to the form is here.

    Thank you!

  • Hi,

It’s possible this is a conflict caused by your theme or another plugin. To check if it is, can you test with all other plugins deactivated and while running the default WordPress theme?

Thank you for taking the time to reply – I appreciate it!

I have done this and am still receiving the errors. However, I am now almost certain it’s the ‘leftover’ caching plugin that’s the problem. I think it was WP Super Cache. I thought I had removed it (including from htaccess and wp-config) – but when I tested with the Twenty Sixteen theme and changed back again, the Form Submission page was still showing in Twenty Sixteen (after refreshing with F5).

Should I contact the WP Super Cache support instead?

    Thanks again!

You may need to as it sounds like a cache issue. If you view the source code of the page, there’s usually a comment at the bottom that says if the page has been cached.

Same problem with WP-Fastest cache. I’ve had nothing but trouble with caching programs.

UPDATE: WP Fastest cache has a section where you can exclude certain pages. It seems to work if exclude my event form page from being cached AND remember to clear the cache before attempting to enter an event.

I’ll report further if I get any new information
