Error establishing database connection

    Hello! …and Help! I downloaded WP and moved the contents into my xampp/htdocs directory to work with it on my computer in a server environment. I tried opening it by entering the following path into my browser window: https://localhost/wordpress/wp-admin/install.php and received the following message:

    Eror establising a database connection

    This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at localhost.
    ———————————————————————–

    I’m sure it’s not a password issue because I wasn’t prompted to enter my password prior to receiving the message. So it may be a database problem. What can I do to resolve the issue?
