I saw that there are a number of threads on this topic in the “installation” forum, but I’ve been using this site for about a year now. But for some reason, this evening I all of a sudden got the following when I tried to view my site, https://www.thecrowe.com…

“Error establishing a database connection! This probably means that the connection information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect. Double check it and try again.

Are you sure you have the correct user/password?
Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
Are you sure that the database server is running?”

I changed nothing in my wp-config.php from earlier today when the site worked fine.

Any idea what got messed up?

    thanks

It’s possible your host may be updating software on the server your database is stored on and took the server offline or they’re updating the database software itself.

I have a helpdesk ticket in to them, have heard anything yet. It’s possible though.

Any luck with this? I’m experiencing the same problem and my host claims that everything is in order.

For some reason, after I drop the files in phpmyadmin, they reappear as if I’d never done anything to them. And I can’t restore from my backup either. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

apparently my server was overwhelmed by traffic to another site hosted there, something resembling an attack. The barrage of traffic crippled the server so it couldn’t make the connection for any of the sites hosted, not just mine. They fixed it. All is well.

On the topic of servers being down or being taken down, are there folks out there who’s host is DreamHost who experience frequent downtime? I’ve been with them for about 3 months and the downtime seems accessive.
Prior to them I was with Yahoo! Pro Hosting for a year and NEVER had any problems, and never had to contact support.
    I’m thinking about switching back.
