    HI,

I can load my WordPress from the front end, but when I attempt to load wp-admin I get
    “Error establishing a database connection

This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at xxx.xxx.xxx.xx. This could mean your host’s database server is down.”

So wp-config is OK for front end but doesn’t allow wp-admin to connect.

    Any ideas?

Are you using a caching plugin? If so, that can allow the site to display without needing the database.

Make sure the values in wp-config.php are correct. If they are, can you connect to your database through your hosting provider’s control panel (usually through a tool called phpMyAdmin)?

    Hi James,

    Thanks for this.

I attempted connecting via phpMyadmin and this stopped working too.

I eventually discovered the database had run out of space and this was the reason I couldn’t logon.

I suspect the caching was displaying previously returned pages which suggested it was only admin with the problem.

It was a client who had purchased his own hosting services and the database was limited to only 150MB which I was unaware of.

    Increasing capacity fixed this one.

    You’re welcome, I’m glad it’s fixed now! ??
