• Hi. I’m very new to wordpress, so I’m guessing this is easy to fix.

I tried creating a MySQL user and database, and I think that part is set, but how do i figure out my hostname? I tried leaving it as localhost, but then i go to https://corban.f-sw.com/wp-admin/install.php and i get the following:

This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host’s database server is down.
    ….

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • Hi

HOSTNAME is webhost-dependent, so there is no generic answer for what goes in that field. I was not able to find a list or chart of hosts who require something other than localhost – GoDaddy is the largest host who does.

In most cases localhost is correct. If you are uncertain check with your webhost for what you enter in as hostname when connecting to a MySQL database.
