‘Error establishing a database connection’ on Dell Localhost

    Hello All,

    I’ve searched the net& forums for several days now to resolve this without luck. Hopefully I can find some resolution here…

    A bit of background info;

    I have been building a site with wp, off and on, on my pc via a localhost utilising wampserver/Apache etc with everything seemingly going well. I then left it for maybe 6 to 8 weeks, made no changes to files or software, however when I returned and tried to login to WordPress (as per usual) through localhost/mysite/wp-login.php I received the error ‘Error establishing a database connection’.

    After several days of troubleshooting (I believe at this point I could also log into phpMyAdmin) without luck i left it again for another 8 weeks until now. Still I can’t regain access despite following the Common WordPress Error guide (and a number of other websites solutions). I also now cannot login to the MySQL server when I believe I originally tried to troubleshoot the error i could.

    – Local install on a pc
    – I can access the Wampserver Configuration page (through localhost & 127.0.0.1) & phpMyAdmin login page
    – Apache/2.4.17 (Win64) PHP/5.6.16 – Port defined for Apache: 80
    – MySQL Version: 5.7.9 – Port defined for MySQL: 3306
    – WordPress 4.6.3.

    Steps taken;
    – I have checked the wp-config.php Database name, username, password & host a dozen times and they are as they should be.
    – I tried the database repair method with no luck as the WordPress repair page wouldn’t even load.
    – I haven’t managed to be able to regain access to phpMyAdmin. I did try a connectiontest.php file which hinted that maybe my mySQL passwords have expired (suspiciously through this period where i’ve been locked out it has been about a year since I downloaded and started using WordPress/Wamp etc)
    – I did attempted to reset mySQL password but found it rather confusing and difficult, plus I wasn’t convinced this was the issue anyways.

    I am reluctant delving too deep and altering things through fear of making things worse if I’m not really sure what’s wrong. + i have a sneaking suspicious this is a common problem and shouldn’t been too difficult to solve so altering too many things might be counter productive…

    Any ideas? Again, everything was working well for at least 10 months then one day after maybe a 6 week break I got the ‘Error establishing a database connection’ page when going to login to WordPress…

    Very much looking forward to any advice or suggestions (& please I’m new to a lot of this so assume I know very little when making any suggestions, thanks!).
