Error Establishing a Database Connection (Aplus.net)

  • I keep getting this error and Aplus.net keeps telling me that they have “fixed” it or that they don’t get it because it happens intermittently.

    Every month or so I login and get this error (pasted below) and I call Aplus and they say it is fixed.

    It’s been going on for almost two years now.

    Any ideas for the non-technical guy that I am?

    Time to switch hosting companies?

  • Never heard of them, but yeah, I’d switch. Regular database problems like that just shouldn’t happen on a healthy system.

    Thanks a lot. It’s really odd but this only happens on the WordPress site that they host and my other non-WP site doesn’t seem to have the issue. It /has/ happened but this one is really rather regular (if intermittent).

    Can I please ask you or one of the mods to take a look at these two errors? The first is when I try the url to the Admin for the blog and the second one is when I try the url to the blog. Happens pretty reliably about every two or three months or so and they tell me they can’t recreate it and they close the ticket… : (

    Thanks for any advice even if it is a yes move on.

    Those links return a 403 error for me, so not sure what I am to see. As to the non-WP sites, I’d move anyway. There’s lot’s of great hosts out there, so why stick with one that screws up your database regularly.

    thanks a bunch.

    can i bother you long enough to ask you if there is a proper methodology for doing this?

    I mean, I try and follow instructions to download the site fully and then I upload it to the new host?

    Check that it is working correctly and then cancel the old host?

    Do I need to set up some kind of pointer or something?

    Maybe just a rough walk through and I can handle it when I get there…?

    hmmm. the error on the links is weird. they work in safari no problem.

    can I ask you what browser you are using?

    Your new host will probably have an offer to move your site from your old host, so I’d go that route. If you’re not technically minded, you don’t want to do it yourself.
