It has been a full month since my website is down with the error
    Error establishing a database connection

I did not change anything to the code and I did the repair database procedure that was recommended.

The host verified that the server is not down
    the php is good
and the connection to the database is good at their end

I double – triple checked my config.php file and all names and password are correct

I can’t access the front end neither the admin. Any idea what I should do now, except throwing everything away and trying a new install on that domain? (and if yes, will I be able to re-import my data?).

Thank you for your help. I am not a geeky techie at all, so I would appreciate any advice with steps I should take. Thank you very much again.

    the domain is at https://terouma.net

  • Well, all of your files are there. You can test this by navigating to:

    https://terouma.net/readme.html

Are you sure you put the correct values for the DB in the wp-config.php file?

When navigating to the /wp-admin I get this message:

One or more database tables are unavailable. The database may need to be repaired. After you repair the database, I would run this url:

    https://terouma.net/wp-admin/maint/repair.php?referrer=is_blog_installed

You may have to add this to your wp-config in order to repair your database using WordPress:

    define(‘WP_ALLOW_REPAIR’, true);

    Thanks Bob, I appreciate it.

I have attempted the repair (several times already) and I also get the message as you quote after I have repaired the database.

the values for the DB are the ones the host gave me. I will re-check with them (for the 4th time)

They say that it must be something in my code, but I have never touched to the code (I would be completely unable to do so).

Back to square one I guess.

Thanks again a lot for your help.

I verified the config.php and everything is okay, I confirmed the password.

Now, it has to be something with wordpress because I checked with another installed CMS and it is working, see here
    https://terouma.net/joomlafr
    and
    also
    https://terouma.net/dotclear

Also, I was very surprised to receive an email directly sent to my inbox by a non-affiliate private company offering to fix my problem for a flat rate. I did not know that there were lurkers on these boards ready to pounce to get customers.

If I was able to afford a professional help, I would probably pay much more than the proposed flat rate for sure, but I would not spend hours researching the community and asking for networking genuine help.

A little shocked from the experience, I have to say ??

Had to do a clean re install.
I was very fortunate that a wizard came to my help.
Grateful to have such a nice community around me.
I still have not understood what happened but I am glad I finally have access back after two months!
