OK, i’m new to this aspect of WordPress.

I’ve installed the MAMP local host application, and then downloaded and installed the WP 3.3.1 to the htdocs folder as instructed.

When i open a browser and type in localhost it opens up a page advising that a wp-config.php file needs to be created.

When i click continue it brings me to a page where i need to enter a database name, username, and password (witha few other bits i was told to ignore).

When i do this, i get a message saying as per thread heading. It sometimes tells me that the password and username are correct, but it can’t find the database…

Any suggestions would be more than welcome as i try and set up a localhost development platform to save me destroying a web site publicly ??

thanks, yes checked it, and it does say just that.

I have tried to create a manual wp-config.php file using the installation suggestions, and now i just a white screen/ window when i enter ‘localhost’ into the address bar.

So, clearly something has happened – the contents of that file are below – i am not to fussed about people seeing the username and password info, as this is local to my Mac only…
