Error establishing a database connection

  • I accidentally overwrote my database for an existing site during a second WP install on another domain. I had a backup of the original database and performed a restore using phpMyAdmin. The restore process went as expected. However, my web site did not come back and I continue to get the browser message, “Error establishing a database connection”. I get the same message when I attempt to access the Admin section so I cannot change themes or change any settings. I have FTP access to the files but cannot find any fault in the code. I have un-installed the second WP.

    An error connecting to your database is common, but it isn’t necessarily a problem with wordpress itself.

    -First, double check your wp-config.php file settings for the database name, database username and database password. This is where most errors occur.

    -Then check that you don’t need to change the database host from “localhost” to something else.

    -Check you have actually created a database with the same database name as is in your wp-config.php file.

    -Last, but not least, if all that information is correct your database probably has a problem with it and you may need to contact your web hosting.

    “Database password”? I didn’t know I had a database password. I’ve got a zillion other passwords associated with this site: phpMyAdmin, wordpress admin, WP Support forum, etc., but never entered any “database” password. Does this perhaps ever go by another name? Please clarify.

    database password is pass you use to login your mysql.
