Error establishing a database connection

  • Why have I been getting so many of these on my blog
    https://www.birdbreath.com/blog/ ?

    It’s been happening quite frequently and I am gettin complaints.

    This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at 216.246.22.254. This could mean your host’s database server is down.

    Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
    Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
    Are you sure that the database server is running?
    If you’re unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.

  • your are entering the ip address for your server you need to enter the nameserver

    Was your blog up and running just fine before? Or is this a new installation?

    I’m guessing that, if you’re getting complaints, it’s been up and running for a while.

    That would mean that your host’s database server is down – and if you’re getting complaints a lot – then it’s down frequently. You should contact your host and ask what the deal is.

    Yes also, It has been operating OK. Lately not too reliably though.

    It works now when I post this. If you see often the DB error message – time to look for a decent host.

    (and I don’t think you need any nameserver – in the config file you need to enter the database server!)

    Right. No need for “nameserver” anything in the wp-config.php file….

    And right again. If this is a common problem, rudolf45 is absolutely spot on – time to look for a “real host”.

    I’ve been strugling with the same problem for over 3 days yet. I have found a solution which worked for me.

    Here’s what I did;

    -Installed Mandriva Linux 2007
    -Installed WordPress software
    -Removed MySQL packages
    -Re-installed MySQL packages
    -Problem Solved!!

    mher – that would be a viable solution if she were hosting her own site (and/or using localhost for local development). But I believe she is “renting” hosting space – like many people do – and doesn’t really have that option.

    I’m agreeing with the others – time for a new host.
