    Hey again,

Today I tried to have a shot at making another blog on the same database, as my host only allows only one to be created. Problem now, is that I now get an ‘Error establishing a database connection’ message when I try to go onto the new or existing blogs.

I have tried many things like removing the newly-made blog, which didn’t work, and then by deleting the existing blog and starting a fresh WordPress installation.

This new installation gives me the same error message, even when I type in the correct information into the ‘wp-config.php’ file.

Any suggestions on how I can fix this problem? My bad on this, I forgot to back up the original file…

    Cheers, iandotcom.

  • Looks like you are starting from scratch so please review your procedures with Installing_WordPress.

Also see this article about Installing_Multiple_Blogs.

Remember, an error establishing a database connection is usually related to one of two things:
    1. Database server is down/not working.
    2. You’ve got the wrong information in your wp-config.php file.

    Hey,

I’ve sent a message to my host about the status of the database server. I’ve tried going through the process of installation and its still returning that error.

In the meantime, is there any more suggestions?

    Ian.

You should be able to use an almost exact copy of your existing blog’s wp-config.php.

All you need to change is the prefix.

I deleted the original blog files in an attempt to reinstall and fix the blog…I guess it messed up badly ??

I managed to get it fixed, it turned out my host changed their mySQL address. Thanks anyway.
