• “Before posting a new topic, be sure to search to see if one has been started already.” – I did this, but couldn’t find someone with the problem as me… so here goes…

it took me a while to get my WP to work, but now I have it working… or at least installed. Ive seen and been inside and even made my 1st post, but i keep getting the page:
    “WordPress
    Error establishing a database connection

This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host’s database server is down.
    * Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
    * Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
    * Are you sure that the database server is running?

If you’re unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.”

page… its getting annoying! sometimes if i just reload the page it goes away and i get the page up, but still it is annoying…
I even tried to reinstall WP with a new database name and user and stuff, but still the same…

    Does anyone have any thoughts?

  • My guess is that your host is having some problems with their database server. That error means exactly what it says it does – WP isn’t able to connect to the database. If you’re able to connect ever, then the username and pwd is right – so it has to be the database itself, which is something your host controls. You might try checking with them about it.

So it is save to say that out of the 3 “reason” this mabe happening:
    * Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
    * Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
    * Are you sure that the database server is running?
it is database server because I have logged in and changed a few things…??

I emailed my server, so now I just have to wait :S

If you’re able to get to WP ever – as you said sometimes if you hit refresh it was ok – then you’ve got the correct username, password, and hostname. (If those were wrong, you’d never be able to connect.) So yeah, eliminating those means it pretty much has to be the database server.

    Who is your host?
Do they use cpanel / vdeck / plesk or ensim ?

I’m having the same error with two different hosts. The newest host that I’m trying out provided a port number for my database as well, is this something that can be changed in Word Press?
