    Customer can’t complete orders, and in the backend in the order I get this error message:

    Paypal Credit Card Payment Failed with message: ‘The transaction was refused as a result of a duplicate invoice ID supplied. Attempt with a new invoice ID’

    What should I do?

  • I’m trying to find a common ground between everybody experiencing these issues.

    We all have different Woocommerce versions, and Paypal remains adamant that these issues are not being caused by them.

    So, I’m looking for a different angle.
    I noticed that some of you (maybe a couple) have mentioned that you’re being hosted by WPEngine. It obviously seems unrelated to the issue, but we are hosted by WPEngine as well. So, how about the rest?

    Can we all list down our host & confirm that that’s not something we all have in common?

    By the way, we forwarded @thaissamendes cURL error to Paypal support, and they responded with:

    Thanks for that response.
    So, it does sound like WooCommerce is showing they’re having a cURL error internally when processing the API response from PayPal.
    Again, we are seeing that we’re sending a success message that they’re having a system issue when processing. So, they’ll need to resolve these errors that their system is seeing. I would love to help further in this, but this has to be a fix that WooCommerce pushes.

    luvidudez – We are NOT using WPEngine. The issues ran from October 5th to the 8th and have now stopped (with no updating). For every failed payment the reason returned from PayPal was duplicate ID, even though PayPal successfully processed the payment.

    The issues on our side also stopped on October 8th. We didn’t update anything either.

    I believe it’s safe to remove the workaround, or at least leave it commented, so we can easily know if it happens again.

    And apparently it was indeed something on PayPal’s side, but they’ll never admit that.

    As consistent with other comments, this error stopped on my client’s site as well. I am still sharing our versions for historical purposes or if this issue reemerges.

    WP 5.8.1
    WooCommerce PayPal Pro (Classic and PayFlow Editions) Gateway 4.5.1
    
    Other possibly relevant settings:
    
    Payment Action: Capture
    Send Item Details: Yes, send line items to Paypal
    3DS 1 & 2 disabled

    Glad to see that it resolved itself. Maybe, I will wait for a few more days then I will revert the temporary change.

    I have reverted the temporary fix that was introduced for that PayPal error.
