Error connecting to mySQL database bogey

Hi,

I’ve uploaded files (extracted by winzip on xp) in binary format to Linux server but running install get database connection problem though I’ve given I assume correct permissions to mySQL, btw to verify this is there an install faq with steps for doing this ie setting permissions on the mySQL end for the (I’m connecting remotely to the server)remote connection required.

Also does wordpress support MySQL version 4.1.20
