• Hi,

Please bear with me as i’m a total noob to all that is MySql etc.
I have downloaded and installed MySql on my local machine, logged in to the console as ‘root’ (I think) and created a database, username for WordPress to run off.

I’ve then downloaded WordPress, changed the details within the wp-config.php file to point to the details of my databse that I have set up and then after uploading all the WordPress files I have attempted to run install.php from the wordpress folder in my browser. I then get the following eror message –

    ‘Error establishing a database connection
This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host’s database server is down.’

Having checked and then double checked the details within the wp-config.php file, I decided to try and investigate. After looking for a GUI to try and manage MySql abit more efficiently as i’m such a noob, I came accross MySql Front which I downloaded. However when trying to log into this program it also says it ‘cannot connect to MySql server on ‘localhost’, prompting me to believe the DB_Host should not be ‘localhost’? What else could DB_host be??

I have tried everything I can think of and checked that ‘mysqld’ is running on my machine which it is but i’m completely stumped now as to what my next step is. Any help would be HUGELY appreciated as developing my new site is now on hold untill I can sort this problem.

    Thanks for listening,

    Richard
