Error “class-fastimage.php on line 31” collapses my web

I have been able to verify that for days the AMP plugin causes a lot of errors that come to collapse my web. In the error.log file I found hundreds of errors like this:
mod_fcgid: stderr: in /var/www/vhosts/MY_DOMAIN/httpdocs/wp-content/plugins/amp/includes/lib/class-fastimage.php on line 31
I have been looking for info about this error, and only found in Google multitude of websites that present the same error:

What’s the status on an update to the AMP plugin that includes a fix for this problem?
my error log file is filling up with 1000s of lines related to this “class-fastimage.php on line 31” error:

If there’s no update due out soon, any suggestions for a temporary fix would be very much appreciated.
