    Hello

I’m trying to setup WP email SMTP so that I can have a contact form on my website. I am a total beginnner so have been relying on lots of guidance and how to articles to build my website so when I follow the instructions to set something up and it doesn’t work I don’t have the knowledge to understand why. Help!.

I’ve run the setup wizard and added the settings given to me by my web hosting support team. When it gets to the final page of the setup wizard and it says running background checks to ensure everything is set up, this page just keeps going round and doesn’t trell me it’s been successful. A small error message comes up on the screen saying I appear to be offline – this is not the case, my internet is working fine. I’ve exited the setup and tried to send a test email and the error message says that my attempt to send an email was unsuccessful because of SMTP Error: Could not connect to SMTP host.

Where do I start to try and figure out what may be causing this?

    Thank you very much

    Hi @katiep65,

Thanks for reaching out & I apologize for the trouble!

This error usually occurs when using the Other SMTP mailer. It indicates that your mail server is refusing the SMTP connection on your site.

To fix this, you’ll need to contact your hosting provider with the error report (see). They should be able to advise on why the connection is being refused and hopefully resolve it.

Please let them know that you are trying to connect to their SMTP settings following the guide here.

In the meantime, you may also configure an alternative mailer on your site.

    I hope this helps. Thanks!
