    Hello,
I’ve been getting the following error message in the admin panel for a while. How can I fix this?

Hi @tniron, thanks for getting in touch!

Do you see any connectivity or permissions fail/error messages in your Wordfence > Tools > Diagnostics page? A specific area to check here would be “Filesystem” near the top, but worth having a quick glance down the page just in case.

Permissions on your WordPress site’s directories are recommended to be 755, and the process owner should be set to www-data in many configurations. If you’ve recently upgraded to PHP8, it could be worth seeing if this issue persists when rolling back to PHP7.4.

Let me know what you find out,

    Peter.

    Hello Peter,

Although I am not sure, I may have installed the PHP8 version to test it and then saw the corrupted website and returned in 7.4. I test this from time to time.

I found an error message when I followed the instructions. I am sharing the screenshot.

Also, when I checked, today I saw the warning that the Plugin was disabled for an undetermined reason. I have now re-enabled it.

    Hi @tniron,

I’m having trouble viewing the screenshot in question including any requests to your domain that fail immediately. Are you running anything at your server that might be blocking my country of origin?

    Thanks,

    Peter.

    Hello Peter,

Thank you for this information and we apologize for the inconvenience. It was an issue driven by Cloudflare and we fixed the bug. Can you recheck?

    Thank you

Hi @tniron, thank-you for resolving that but no problem at all.

I’ve checked your screenshot, and the unavailable process owner doesn’t appear on all WordPress sites we see but does appear often enough for me to know it doesn’t usually cause issues in itself. Ideally though your website filesystem would be owned by www-data, your host can assist with this if you’re not comfortable changing permissions on the web server.

Did you observe any other red error states with the “Filesystem Ability to read/write various files” section below the “Wordfence Status” panel at the top?

    Thanks again,

    Peter.
