Error after failed upgrade attempt

  • I received this error when trying to login to the website after attempting a automatic update. I am no longer able to login. I have been told by someone that I would have to do a manual update but I am unsure.

    Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘*’ in /home/vs041fa/public_html/wp-admin/admin-header.php on line 16

  • I think “someone” is correct. ?? Your upgrade did not complete successfully.
    Try:
    – switching to the Twenty Ten theme by renaming your current theme’s folder in wp-content/themes using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

    – resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress.

    – re-running the upgrade manually using wp-admin/upgrade.php.
