Error adding images to galleries

Recently it started showing a permission error when trying to upload an image to the plugin gallery. Client says they were successful last on December 9
(not to confuse with the WordPress media gallery, which the image is uploading fine…)

Oops! Sorry, but an error occured. This may be due to a server misconfiguration. Check your PHP error log or ask your hosting provider for assistance.
Could not write to file. Please check filesystem permissions. Filename: /wp-content/gallery/dinner-with-dad

Steps taken were.:

1. NextGen > Add Gallery Images.
2. I chose “Import from Media Gallery” (but client says same error happen if trying the “upload images”)
3. I chose EXISTING Gallery form drop down, called “Dinner with Dads.” And then selected images etc

I DID reach out to my host who replied as such:

I have enabled a custom php.ini for the php 7.4 that is currently set for the domain. I have looked over the settings and everything is correct permission wise to be able to upload files since the media library is able to work successfully with no issues. This appears to be an issue with the plugin as there may have been an update for it that is making it no longer work with this PHP version or WordPress version. Below is a copy of the error log when the import process is made from the steps you provided.
