I have web hosting https://www.mortenleine.com. Uses WordPress with plugin Wordfence 7.5.5. I have been told that I can now enable 2-step sign-in. When I try to set this up, I get an error message that the server time and authenticator app don’t match.
    (Error Activating 2FA
The code provided does not match the expected value. Please verify that the time on your authenticator device is correct and that this server’s time is correct.)

In the setting for the plugin, the following times are defined:

    Server Time: 2021-08-20 11:55:07 UTC (2021-08-20 11:55:07 UTC+0)
    Browser Time: Fri, 20 Aug 2021 11:57:01 GMT (Fri Aug 20 2021 13:57:01 GMT+0200 (sentraleuropeisk sommertid))
    Corrected Time (NTP): 2021-08-20 11:55:07 UTC (2021-08-20 11:55:07 UTC+0)

As you can see, there is a difference between server time and “real time”
Do you have any good tips on how it might be possible to set up this 2-step login? Who else can I ask about this?

  • I am having the same issue, there is a 6 hour difference between my server and browser times:

    Browser Time: Fri, 20 Aug 2021 15:57:16 GMT (Fri Aug 20 2021 09:57:16 GMT-0600 (Mountain Daylight Time))

    Hi @mole99

I would like to have a look at your Wordfence diagnostics report. Please go to the top of the “Diagnostics” tab on the Wordfence “Tools” page. There will be a “SEND REPORT BY EMAIL” button to send the diagnostics report. Enter wftest [at] wordfence [dot] com as the email and mole99 as the forum username please.

Once you have emailed me the diagnostics report can you reply here to let me know that it has been sent. This is important in the unlikely event that your installation of WordPress is having an issue with sending mail.

    Hi @ddapson

As per forum guidelines below please open your own topic:

“Unless users have the exact same version of WordPress on the same physical server hosted by the same hosts with the same plugins, theme, and configurations, then the odds are the solution for one user will not be the same for another. For this reason, we recommend people start their own topics.”

    Hi @mole99

    Thank you for the report.

Your server time is correct so you will need to check your phone or tablet.

    1) In the date and time settings on the phone or tablet make sure they are synchronized correctly to the correct date and time in your time zone.

    2) Install any pending phone or tablet operating system updates.
    ?
    3) Make sure the authentication application is using the latest version.
    ?
    4) Remove the entry for Wordfence in the authentication application.
    ?
    5) Turn your phone or tablet fully off and on again.
    ?
    6) Reload the Login Security >> Two-Factor Authentication page again to create a new QR code.
    ?
    7) Try to set it up again.
    ?
    8) If that still fails then you will likely have to delete the authentication application and start again. If you have many entries in your authentication application that can’t be backed up then you could try a separate, different application just for Wordfence.
