Error 504 Failed to load resource – admin-ajax.php

    In the past few weeks I have been experiencing this error. I am getting a 504 error, Failed to load resource for admin-ajax.php. This error occurs when I try to create multiple variations in a variable product. If I create 5 variations at once it works, although slowly, but if I try to do 10 it just spins forever. If I try to delete 10 variations I get the same sort of hang results.

    In Chrome DevTool console I get the 504 error.

    From what I see, you are hosting the site at SiteGround (I am part of the support team there:) ). Have you already opened a ticket regarding this issue? If yes – can you please provide me with a ticket ID so we can investigate it further (if you haven’t opened a ticket yet – please do so, we will be able to provide you with some more information about why is this happening).

    Hi Ivan,

    I did contact support and the issue was the PHP Max Input Vars, which the technician increased from 3000 to 6000. This seemed to solve all the issues. So for anyone else out there, you can either get hosting support to do this for you, or you can add a php.ini file to your WordPress root directory. I won’t give instructions on how to add it in case it isn’t compatible with your hosts setup, but that’s the file you would add the directive (code) into.
