error 500 when migrating

  • Hello there.
    I am trying to import the content of my wordpress.com blog to my new site on www.remarpro.com. I upload the xml file and import it but then i cannot do the next step “assign authors” as when I press submit I have an internal 500 error. I don’t get it.

    Please can someone explain?

  • Try checking your site’s error logs for a more specific error message. Your hosts should be able to help you in accessing your site’s error logs.

    how big is the import size. have you tried increasing your php execution time (if you have access)? or try to split the import file in pieces may help as well

    Hi. Thanks for the quick answers.

    The size is only 8.6MB.
    How would I increase the php execution time?

    And I did inform OVH (host) but no reply yet.

    you can increase memory size in php.ini if you have access on it or add this line in wp-config file “define(‘WP_MEMORY_LIMIT’, ‘128M’);”
    or more if possible.

    I did add the line on the wp file but not to avail. Same message appears

    Just for experimental suggestion: can you try to setup wordpress in localhost using default theme and try to import the file there?

    Super! It works. Need to do some changing, find a way of getting back some of the photos lost in the process but it’s good.
