Error 500 on login but deactivating/activating installed plugins fixed the issue
-
This is an odd one. I installed Gmail SMTP and myself and the other admin tried to log in several times via wp-admin on other browsers/devices and it gave us error 500 every time.
Luckily I was still logged in elsewhere so I could deactivate the plugin which solved the issue. I removed another SMTP plugin which I thought may have affected things, but it made no difference. I then removed Gmail SMTP.
Needing to use Google Apps for SMTP, I persevered and started by deactivating chunks of other plugins – 4 to begin: Cookie Consent, CPT Bootstrap Carousel, DP Maintenance Mode Lite and Enable Media Replace. I then re-installed Gmail SMTP and had no login issue. I then reactivated the four plugins one by one and still have no login issue.
This is fixed but very odd, so I thought I would mention it for anybody else experiencing this (although I hope not).
