    Hello,

So I am running wordpress via Bitnami, but I don’t have a domain, I am using localhost. I was recently messing with the functions.php of my theme (my theme is Sensible WP) and I do not know how to do that kind of coding but I was following a tutorial, but obviously I did something wrong, because as soon as I clicked update, I got:

“Server error 500. The website encountered an error while retrieving https://localhost/wordpress/. It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly.”

I figure its the changes that I made to the script, but I made a copy of the functions.php before editing, so I think if I can get back to editing the script, I can change it back. How would I do that?

    Thanks!
    Luke

upload a fresh copy of the file you have changed.

or, try switching to the unedited default Theme (Twenty Sixteen, etc.) for a moment using FTP , or your web-host’s cPanel or whatever file management application your host provides (no Dashboard access required). Navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and switch to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder by adding “-old” to the end of the folder name. Alternately, you can remove other themes except the default theme. That will force your site to use it.

Thank you so much! I went into my Application Folder and found the wp-content/themes and changed the functions.php back to the original and it works now.

    Thanks!
