I’m getting this error when clicking the menu item for “Latest Comic” with “Use theme template for Latest Comic Page.” enabled. I’m using WP 4.0 and Manga+Press 2.8.1. I’m also using the Manga+Press Bundled Theme for TwentyFourteen.

Fatal error: Call to undefined function mpp_start_latest_comic() in /home/account/website.com/wp-content/plugins/mangapress/themes/mp-twentyfourteen/comics/latest-comic.php on line 14

Lastly, this might be painfully obvious, but I can not figure out how to use the plugin. Series, would be the comic series name, and add new comic would be to add the latest comic/chapter within a chosen series. Right? or no? How do I add multiple pages to one chapter?

I’m trying to help a friend out with her manga series on her soon to be blog.

Thanks from both of us in advance!

I’m in the process of working on a fix for your first issue.

On the second issue. You’ve just highlighted a UX issue I’ve been struggling with — and sadly, haven’t been able to get much feedback on as to what works best for most people, or what most people would understand. Anyway, what I intended for Series is for the taxonomy to act as both “Series” and “Issue.” I’ve had people use the plugin for hosting different web-comics in the same WordPress install, or in my case, one web-comic with several different episodes that have multiple pages. But as to your question, in this case yes, you have it right — all of it is up to you and how you wish to structure your comic. Basically, Series can act as both “Series” and “Series Chapter” with each comic post being a page for each chapter.

Once again, thanks for the feedback and thank you for letting me know about the bug!

Cool, thank you for the quick responses and working on a fix.

On the UX issue. Maybe I can gladly help with any ideas, if not a little.

Looking at it on a mangaka side, you have a manga “series” and with each series, you have chapters or “comics”. Each chapter could be anywhere from 5 pages too close to 30 or more. With what is already in place (love how it is all integrated into wordpress’ “flow” of things.), you may be able to do something like this:

Series: name of manga/comic (no real change here)
Add new Comic: consider this the chapter of a series (i.e. chapter 01). Keep the Comic Image as the “featured image” or cover page of the chapter that would be displayed. Add the ability to upload multiple images or pull from an uploaded folder of images for specific chapter and order by filename via wordpress media viewer. Keep the Series box to choose what series the chapter belongs to. the “first, prev, next, last” will then cycle through the images in order. Doing it this way will still enable a user to continue using the plugin the way it was originally set up and enable a user to use the above suggestion as well. Cleaning up the comic view section as well.

The way you explained it above imho, will flood the comics view with single page chapters if you had a 10 chapter manga with 10 pages (i.e. chapter 1 – page 1, chapter 1 page 2, etc.).

Let me know what you think? Again, I’ll gladly help with what I can. I’m no coder, so this is all I’m able to do. ?? Thanks again!

Thanks for the ideas! I’ve had a request for multiple images per post. At the time, I didn’t really think much of it, but I think I can see the point of being able to treat each comic post as a gallery.

And, fyi: just updated the plugin. If you pull down a fresh copy (version 2.8.1.1), that should fix the issue you’re having.

Awesome! Just saw it and installed. No more template error! ?? Thanks for the quick fix.

Yeah, if there was that gallery function, this would be an all amazing plugin. It integrates neatly into wordpress so far! Nothing else available is this nice or clean. Definitely a plugin I wouldn’t mind paying for!
