• Hello, I am having a big problem with the installation of wordpress in my cpanel.

This is what I′ve done so far.

-I′ve downloaded the wordpress zipped package.
-I open it and edit the config.php file and I write the name of my database, the user, and the user password. I save and I zip it again.
-I go to my cpanel and I upload the zipped file on the main folder.
-I then go to https://mercedesmedina.com/wp-admin/install.php in my browser

Then it appears the following error:

    ¨Not Found

The requested URL /wp-admin/install.php was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. ¨

    Please can someone help me?

I dont know if im doing something wrong but I have surely followed all the steps in the 5 minute installation and also the detailed installation.

    The site is https://mercedesmedina.com/

    Thank you!

  • You have to unzip the archive at your hosting and then start the installation.
But why don’t you use Softaculous or whatever your hosting offers and install WP automatically?

It’s much easier if you ask your web hosting company to help you install WordPress.

Do not edit the config.php before the install. The install writes the config.php.

Just create the database and db user.

You enter that info in during the install.

    Hi @sinip,

Yes, I have unzipped the file during the installation. I click on ¨extract¨ and then delete the zipped file and leave the rest.

Also, I′ve tried using the softaculous but it doesnt allow me because I had already created the database in my cpanel and the softaculous requires another database for wordpress. My hosting plan only includes 1 database.

thank you @chanceduponthis I think I will contact my hosting right away and ask for help.

Well, if you’ve unzipped the WordPress package then it creates folder first, so unless you’ve moved everything to /public_html/ now all files sit in the folder named by the package and the proper way to start install would be https://mercedesmedina.com/wordpress/ or whatever was the filename.

Anyway, I don’t know why are you making your life complicated. Just delete that folder and start usual Softaculous install. Fill in database details when asked and it will be done in a few minutes.
