error 404 when i select sub-categories from the widget

when i choose sub category from the widget drop down of Cat+tag filter,
i got 404 error….
the link goes like https://www.xyz.com/subcategory/but the post is actually on this link => https://www.xyz.com/category/subcategory/
how to solve this issue….
