• Hi there,

Well, I thought I was nearly there with finishing off my website/blog…alas it would appear not!

Today I installed a parent page (blog home) with a sub-page for my blog posts. I’m new to all this and whilst I was putting the sub-page together I amended the permalink in the view editor and also in the settings, permalinks section. Now the page is not showing within the website and comes up with error 404 ‘page not found’.

I have tried setting permalinks back to default settings and I have also tried reverting back to the default theme. Neither has had any effect.

Can anyone please help me resolve this in layman’s terms. Could I simply delete this page only and start again with it? The error is only appearing on this sub-page, nowhere else within the site.

I’m using Typominima theme and my URL is https://www.lexiconlane.co.uk, the issue can be found on blog page ‘A Room with my Views’.

    Many thanks

  • I think you are trying to use a static page.

By the way, in case this helps, the permalink visible at the top of the view editor for the page is reading as https://lexiconlane.co.uk/?page_id=124

The blog home page is marked as a static page as I want to use this as ‘welcome page’ to the blog. But if you hover over this tab in the menu, it displays the sub page, which I am wanting to use for actual posts. If you go to this page, it is here the error is showing.

Further, I have just noticed that if I go into settings / reading and change my posts page, whichever page I change it to is them marked as the page with the error, ‘nothing found’, and the original one I had problems with then appears with the content I had prepared.

    Any ideas anyone? I’m stumped!

Did you follow the instructions in the link I gave you? Create a second page and call it A Room with my Views.

The link should look like https://www.lexiconlane.co.uk/A_Room_with_my_Views

Yes, I think so, other than I had already added a line of content to the second page. I’m want the front page to be the home page, there’s then an ‘about’ page, ‘contact me’ page etc. I then want another page further along the menu ‘A Room With My Views – blog home’ to act a home page for the blog area I guess, with the posts to be added to the sub-page I have created here ‘A Room with My Views’. I’m not sure if I’ve added this correctly or not. In ‘settings / reading’, I have the static front page set to ‘Home of Donna Navarro, Freelance Writer’ and the posts page set to the sub page I created ‘A Room With My Views’. I have tried amending the posts page to the parent page but this just moved the ‘nothing found’ error message to the parent page.

Apologies if I am complicating things but this is all very new to me!

Sounds like you are doing things right. Create a test post and publish it. Check the permalink for it.
