Error 404 Message

    Hi All,

    So I have seen this issue a few years ago, but not seen recently.

    I’ve just logged into the back-end of the website and I cannot access certain pages, such as ‘Products’; Pages and such.

    I can access Woo Commerce and run a diagnostic test which is below. There are a number of updates that I need to do; but when I go and click for the update page, it shows the Error 404 messages. Even when in recovery mode (where WordPress have sent me an email) I cannot update anything

    I can see many plugins are outdated and it’s giving 404 error message when you try to update theme.

    Can you please share a copy of the fatal error log found under WooCommerce > System Status > Logs (if available)?

    Also discuss it with your hosting provider and ask them to check the server error log and share it with us.

    Hello @carolinen07,

    Although 256MB is the minimum requirement for WooCommerce, according to the error logs, the server memory is running out.

    You can ask your host to help you increase it to 512MB or more. Alternatively, you can check this guide on how to edit the wp-config file.

    Hi Saif. Thank you for that input – unfortunately this still hasn’t worked.

    Even the WooCommerceApp doesnt seem to be working either (we received an online order and payment which worked fine yesterday; it shows that there is a new order on the APP but when attempts are made to refresh it states that it ‘couldn’t load data’

    We’re unable to access anything to refresh / update the updates that appear need doing and cannot access our website to add / amend anything.

    We have tried support chat and our web developer is on with this now – however do you know of another step?

    We’re doing a backup of the website just incase; but I feel it may be easier to delete woocommerce to reinstall as we cannot action any updates due to this 404 error

    Great question!

    To clarify, deleting the WooCommerce plugin will not affect your WooCommerce data in any way. All orders, customer etc will still be there once WooCommerce has been reinstalled.

    This is always a good idea since it is good to know that, should something go wrong, you have a backup.

    We have updated the memory limit to 512M and deleted Woocommerce but it is still showing as an ERROR 404…

    We are trying to re-intall woocommerce from the back end … but whilst that happens (and if it doesn’t work) does anyone have any other ideas

    Hi @carolinen07 ,

    While you are waiting on the outcome of reinstalling WooCommerce, can you clarify if you recall any changes/updates being made to the site prior to noticing this issue?

    Also, please can you provide more information on the exact areas of the dashboard that are producing a 404 error. I’d like to see if these are only areas related to WooCommerce core, or if this affects areas part of WordPress core as well.

    In the meantime, you could try performing a full conflict test to see if this may be the cause of a theme/plugin conflict.

    To test, you’ll first want to change the theme on your site to Storefront, then check to see if the issue is still present. If that resolves the issue, you’ll want to get in touch with your theme’s developer and see if they have an update or fix for you.

    If changing the theme doesn’t help, you’ll want to deactivate all plugins?except for WooCommerce?and take a look. If that fixes the problem, re-enable the other plugins one by one (gradually), checking after each, to see where the issue is coming from.

    Alternatively, you have the option to install the?Health Check?plugin. On the troubleshooting tab, you can click the button to disable all plugins and change the theme for you, while you’re still logged in, without affecting normal visitors to your site.

    Hi Roxy

    So I have used the site last week with no issues, it’s not until the beginning of the week that there was an issue, Prior to this, no updates/amendments have been made.

    We have reinstalled WooCommerce which has made no difference

    Error 404 occurs when we select the following ‘options’ on the dashboard-
    Updates / Posts / Pages / Comments / Product Page (Page we use daily) / Marketing / Users…. It’s pretty much all of the options to the lefthand side at the dashboard. So it is also definitely WordPress as well as Woocommerce.

    We’re still getting error code 404 on another them
    We cannot run the health check as we are getting error 404
    We have deactivated everything (aside from Woo Commerce) and ae still getting the issue.

    The 404 message is

    Oops! That page can’t be found
    It looks like nothing was found at this location. Maybe try one of the links below or a search?

    We’re genuinely at a loss with this!

    Hi,

    To clarify, was the conflict test performed? If by any chance you can not disable the other plugins, you will need to temporarily disable them using FTP as explained here: How to Deactivate All Plugins When Not Able to Access WP-Admin.

    When WooCommerce is the only plugin active, does the issue persist? Let us know what you find.
