Dear Friends,

since the last updates of plugins, themes and version of WordPress I have been observing that every day in the morning the pages of the shop stopped working and did not load, 404. I solved it by refreshing the permalinks and it worked again.

This weekend I did some tests and I discovered that with the Yoast SEO plugin deactivated this error does not happen. This makes me think that there may be a clonflict with your pluging and my website. I wanted to communicate it to you in case there have been more cases or for the record.

Hello @truchimochi

I’m sorry about the 404 error you experienced. This might be hard to replicate since it happened randomly. Do you have Redis object cache or any other caching plugin installed?

Also, we know that sometimes using the ‘remove categories prefix’ feature can cause unexpected URL behavior and is not recommended in most cases. You can learn more about it?here. Do you have that feature turned on in WordPress > Yoast SEO > Settings > Categories & tags > Categories?

There is no cache plugin, and I also eliminate the .httacces rules relatives with cache. This was the beginning of my test…

The issue might be specific to your site as we haven’t heard from others yet experiencing similar problems.

Could you please confirm you’ve completed the SEO Data Optimization (SEO > Tools)? If you were to complete it do you experience the same issue?

If the issue is persistent, we suggest creating a staging site and check if the issue is reproducible on it as well or not.

We can imagine that deactivating plugins or switching themes on your production site isn’t the best way to go. Do you have or would you be willing to set up a staging environment to run additional tests without interfering with your live site?

No staging environment is available for testing
A staging environment is a copy of your site on your server that allows you to implement and test changes without affecting your live site. Some popular web hosts offer quick setups for a staging site. Please contact your web host to see if this option is available for your site. You can create a staging site using a WordPress plugin if your web host does not offer staging environments.

Production or staging environment is available for testing
Often, we see problems occur in combination with another plugin or theme. The fastest way to rule out any conflict is to deactivate all non-Yoast plugins and switch to a standard theme like Twenty Twenty-Two.
