• I set up a survey and I received 44 responses and everything worked fine. After a couple of days I was notified that when the survey was completed and submitted there was an error message under the thank you message. The error message is:

There was an error. The error status code is: 403 The error message is: Forbidden

I duplicated the survey and reposted the new form and again it worked fine. After 6 respondents the 403 error message reoccured.

How can I rectify this error?

    That’s a bit mysterious

Can you provide a link to where your survey is so I can have a closer look?

Sure. I’m not sure what link you want so here’s a couple:

    The plugin resides here: https://www.appleiclub.com/wp-admin/admin.php?page=awesome-surveys.php

The Survey page is Here: https://www.appleiclub.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=1929&action=edit

The Main web site is: https://www.appleiclub.com

Hope this helps. Thanks for the speedy response.

    voorn,

Thanks! That helped me figure out *WHAT* is happening, now I need to see if I can figure out *WHY*

The ‘what’ that is happening is this: When the survey form is generated it is generated with a nonce (you can read about that here) when the survey is submitted, that nonce is verified. In your case, the verification check is failing.

I really have no idea why that is happening. Could I ask you to leave that survey alone for a couple of days? I want to keep checking it and see if the nonce gets regenerated.

Also, can you navigate to Settings -> General and look at your time settings. Tell me what is reported in UTC date/time & local time/date see screenshot

    Sure.

    Here the time information

Timezone New York UTC time is 2014-09-27 13:10/07 Local time is 2014-09-27 9:10:07

Awesome, thanks. Is the time information a copy/paste or is the ‘/’ a typo in the UTC time

    13:10/07

    (@voorn)

    Sorry. Should be 13:10:07

And is the time correct (more or less?) or is it off by ~20 – 30 minutes?

    Thread Starter voorn

    (@voorn)

It seems to be off by 30 minutes

I can’t tell you definitively that the time settings are causing this, but since the WordPress functions that generate & verify nonces rely on time settings it does seem to be the most likely culprit.

I’m not sure where to tell you to begin troubleshooting the wrong time issue. It could be caused by dozens of different things. If I were you, I would start by contacting my host to see if they can give you any insight into why your time is off. The server could simply be set to the incorrect time, php.ini may be misconfigured…it’s really hard to say.

If I get some time, I may try to recreate those conditions on a local server to see if I get the same result. Other than that, I don’t think I can troubleshoot your problem any further until the time issue is resolved. Sorry about that ??

    Thanks for your efforts

Hi, I thought I’d add to this thread rather than create a new one, since it looks like I have the same problem. It started giving a 403 error after a few days.

    My site: https://www.gameindustry.com/

    The survey page: https://www.gameindustry.com/game-of-the-year-voting/

My time values: UTC time is 2015-02-26 16:27:23 Local time is 2015-02-26 11:27:23

These were within a few seconds of being correct when I pulled them.

I also am getting this error… the only difference is I just installed the plugin and created the survey and right out of the gate… 403

Is there any update to this issue?? Seems like multiple people are experiencing it.

    Thanks
