    Hello,

For some reason I just stumbled across some pages in my admin panel (Dashboard, Appearance -> Menus) returning a blank error. Other pages are fine (Posts, pages, Appearance -> Themes).

I don’t really use much more than the above mentioned links, so there might be more. I tried accessing the menu page in Chrome, Firefox, and IE, and none of them worked. In Chrome I was logged in, the others didn’t even prompt me to sign in.

How could this error suddenly appear? Why would only some pages be affected, with others running fine? How would I be able to update my menu structure?

    Thanks!

    Peter

Try deactivating all plugins. If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that does not resolve the issue, try switching to the Twenty Fourteen theme to rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

    Hi James,

Thanks for your reply. I just tried what you suggested, but neither deactivating all plugins nor switching to the default theme made a difference. The menu page continues throwing an error.

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks!

Hm, it could be a corrupt core file then.

Try downloading WordPress again and delete then replace your copies of everything except the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory with fresh copies from the download. This will effectively replace all of your core files without damaging your content and settings. Some uploaders tend to be unreliable when overwriting files, so don’t forget to delete the original files before replacing them.

    Who are you hosting with?

This kind of error tends to be hosting related and pops up when the page isn’t able to be loaded due to the server not sending data.

Also, how many links do you have in your menu? It could be possible that you’re out of memory and some changes need to be made to your php.ini file to increase the size allowed for the menu.

I host on my own VPS. Checked my error logs, but there was nothing there. Tried again when I got back from work, and was about to re-upload the wp-admin/nav-menus page, when I saw WP4 was out. Just updated, and my menus are back.

Odd, but oh well. I’ll take it ??

    Thanks for the assist, everyone.
