I am an admin for a company blog which we have recently been having problems with for the past couple of days.

For whatever reason, whenever I attempt to access this blog, the response is always a white screen displaying that the site can’t be reach as the connection had been “refused”. Below reads “ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED”.

This is always the case when trying to access the blog through the wp-admin login or just through normal means and I have tried on multiple browsers and devices. Any other web page works completely as normal, so the route of the problem is definitely within the wordpress page itself.

I have read that it may have something to do with a rogue plugin or faulty theme. However, as I am unable to log in to the dashboard, I was unsure as to wether there was a way to make these changes without logging in.

If there is anybody who could help, that would be fabulous.

  • Try disabling plugins / switching to a default theme via FTP (or cPanel file manager).

Hi there Rajesh. Thank you for the reply.

I attempted to do this through Forklift (an FTP software) But when trying to connect to this blog page to access the plugin/theme files I keep being denied, which I figured was either because of the server connection problem or something going wrong with my login details (which seemed to work okay as far as I was concerned).

I might try informing my director (who manages the blog page to see if he could make these changes).

Otherwise, would there be any other FTP software that you’d recommend (considering that I am looking for a free to download one that is compatible with Mac)?

    I use WinSCP for FTP.
You should be able to login to FTP, as that error has got nothing to do with accessing files via FTP.

Can you post a link to a page at blog.brightonimplantclinic.co.uk that is working correctly? Or is the problem that no pages at blog.brightonimplantclinic.co.uk are working?

The former is a WordPress issue, most likely with the siteurl and home options. The latter is a DNS or webserver issue, perhaps the A record for the subdomain having the wrong IP address, or perhaps the Apache virtual host having the wrong IP address.

I can confirm that from what you have stated, the problem is most likely the latter.

Any page or link affiliated with the blog all result in the refused connection regardless of the device/internet connection I use.

What would be the best way forward with this in mind?

You should get in touch with the person who can access the brightonimplantclinic.co.uk domain records at 123-Reg (123-reg.co.uk), and verify that the A record for the blog subdomain points to the correct IP address.

You should also get in touch with the person who manages the server where the brightonimplantclinic.co.uk site is located, and verify that blog.brightonimplantclinic.co.uk is being served from the correct IP address in the webserver configuration.

    Good morning.

Thanks very much. I think given that it would be best to relay this to the person who invited me as an admin for the blog as he would most likely know who can access the domain records/who manages the server etc.

    Hello again.

I have found out that this blog was suffering from a server issue and it is currently migrating to a new one.

Therefore this issue should be resolved soon.

    Thanks everyone for your help.
