• Most plugin authors request admin access when investigating a problem. I create a staging site but they will still have access to all my customer’s data which is not compliant with my privacy policy or presumably GDPR.

The Personal Data erasure option is one email at a time (I have thousands of users).

Is there a way to scrub a site of all personal data before handing admin login over?

Up until now I have been using plugins to delete users and another to delete orders but I dont’ know if that is really scrubbing it. I’ve searched on forums and for plugins but can’t find anything except how to erase for one customer at a time.

    Thanks

  • How about creating another role, say, TempAdmin that has all access except users & orders section? Take a look at User Role Editor plugin using which you can create a new user role.

I think that would be easier than deleting users & orders.

I forgot to mention they also almost always want FTP too. Which I believe gives them access to everything even if their login is limited roles?

Or Maybe not, I don’t know how to use FTP.

Also in many cases they need to be able to access orders in general to test problems. They need to be able to create new ones not see old ones(woocommerce) Users they wouldn’t normally but orders definitely.

Not here. Plugin authors are prohibited from doing so on www.remarpro.com. If one does ask, please use the “report topic” button to alert moderators to this violation of forum guidelines.

Not via this forum. These are mostly all paid plugins that are requesting it via their own support channels. Even woocommerce support asks for adnin access.

For example I just contacted the paid plugin SearchWP (I have paid pro version). They immediately asked for admin access to see why my search results aren’t as expected. This is the normal standard when contacting a plugin support directly.

If you grant someone admin access to your site, they have the same level of access that you do. But NO ONE ON THIS SITE is allowed to ask you for admin access. What you do when you’re elsewhere is not relevant to these forums.

Am I in the wrong forum? I thought this was a forum to ask for help with things about wordpress? If this is NOT a place to ask questions about wordpress in general, then I apologize.

I was asking for help with erasing all personal data from my site, wiping it clean, but keeping all site functionality.

I was giving a use case for why I want it, but for some reason it seems like the responses except for Samuel O focus not on the issue I asked for help about, but on what my use case is.

So starting over, forgetting my use case:

Is there a way to erase all personal data from my site while still keeping all site functionality.

Samuel O had a suggestion but that would not work for me because with user role limited, all site functionality is not available to the person logged in. I need someone to be able to login as admin see the whole site, but not be able to access any customer data. Databases would need to be wiped clean too of that information, not just made inaccessible.

No. You still need your user account.

    >> I need someone to be able to login as admin see the whole site, but not be able to access any customer data. <<

    No.

    An admin is an admin.

    >> Databases would need to be wiped clean too <<

Your site IS your database. Wiping it wipes your site.

Bottom line: You need to trust anyone who has admin access.

As mentioned in the OP, I am talking about a staging site, not my original site.

So I keep my original site with all my data, create a staging site, and want to wipe the staging site clean. Whomever has admin access to the staging site can see all functionality but databases of users/orders are gone.

I have done it before manually but it is slow. I can pay my webadmin to do this faster, but still not desirable every time there is a problem with woocommerce or any of my many paid plugins to pay someone to create a clean staging site.

I am hoping that someone else who has done this can respond to this post.

If anyone has a suggestion HOW to do this I would appreciate it. If you don’t know of a solution to this problem, then no need to respond. Thank you.
