Equal height columns as a core option in WordPress

I may not have searched hard enough but I don’t see a quick and practical way of making all content areas including the sidebars have equal height. I know this is a general problem in HTML/CSS, but having it as part of the core WordPress would avoid having to modify core files and thus make for smoother updating to new versions. Is that anywhere on the new features list for the development team?
