I use Transistor.fm as a podcast host and the Podcast Importer for my test site, which is going live on Oct. 1 (so the staging will disappear from the URL). My issue is that Transistor’s episode summary (the <description> in the RSS feed) is showing up as essentially a subtitle on the blog post, cutting itself off after about 55 words. I can see it as an excerpt on the post, but I don’t know why it is cutting off.

The full description/show notes (the <content:encoded> in the RSS feed) shows up just fine with no word count or character limitations.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hi @jlgilber,

Thanks for using our plugin and for reaching out.
The default excerpt length is limited to 55 words.

This is often something determined by your theme, but it can be easily increased if you want. Feel free to check this article and increase yours – https://www.hostinger.com/tutorials/wordpress-excerpt-length/

Upon further investigation, the issue isn’t with the excerpt length, but that the “subtitle” of the blog post is pulling from the <itunes:subtitle> field – which is limited to 255 characters. I reached out to Transistor to see if there was anything they could do and they passed me back to the plug-in developers.

Is there a way for the plug-in to export the <itunes:summary> instead of the <itunes:subtitle>? Or can I somehow skip the subtitle and have the summary in the body of the post?

    Hi again,

Basically the content itself is imported and you can even choose which tag to import under the ‘Advanced Options’ (the available tags are “content:encoded”, “description” and “itunes:summary”).

It doesn’t make much sense to import the full content into the excerpt. Mainly because it’s being imported elsewhere, but also because the excerpt is limited by default within WordPress.

Your theme should be able to help you determine what type of content you display.
Also, if you don’t need the itunes:subtitle field, you can remove it from your podcast feed altogether.

We currently don’t have an option to disable the importing of the excerpt, but we’ll look into that in the future.

Thank you so much for the response. I have a much clearer picture of what I need to do now.
