Thanks for your suggestion, which I believe is already implemented I the current MLA version.
If you select one or more items, pick “Edit” from the Bulk Actions dropdown and then click “Apply”, the Bulk Edit Area will open. In the bottom right corner of that area you will see “Map Custom Field metadata” and “Map IPTC/EXIF metadata” buttons to the left of the “Update” button. You can click either one to perform the mapping rules on the selected files.
