Enhanced user registration with email confirmation

It’s been a while since I built websites with WordPress. To prevent fake registrations, can I require anyone who registers with the site to complete their registration by clicking on an email link? The link should expire after a certain period so that I can prune the unconfirmed accounts. Is there a way to do it, or something similar to block fake account creation?

I’ve built a couple of sites using LearnPress. The sites use LearnPress’s login and registration. I don’t know if it’s different from the usual WordPress setup. TIA
