• I just put the enhanced permalink structure in place to use nice looking url’s….it looks excellent, but I’m a bit worried about duplicate content.

Can anyone give me a bit of aid on doing permanent redirects from the old pages (ugly urls) to the new pretty urls for SE purposes?

  • What do you mean duplicate content? When you use the permalink structure, it changes all of your posts that you ever made over to the new format.

i think hes talking about search engines, specifically google, which seems for me atleast, to like to keep more than few dead links around. Correct me if im wrong stuntdubl…

Yes, absolutely for the SE’s. They will see two sets of pages. I would also like to get credit for the links to any of the new pages appropriately.

I’m not very familiar with mod-rewrite, but I’m looking for a sitewide 301 redirect within the .htaccess

    Example:
    site.com/?p=213
    301 to site.com/date/time/new-friendly-url/

    site.com/?p=214
    301 to site.com/date/time/new-friendly-url2/

    etc. etc.

I notice there is [QSA,L] after most of the mod-rewrite stuff

I’ve seen [301,L] used before but have no clue what this means, and it didn’t seem to work how I had hoped.

Really wanna do a site-wide sweeping 301 to the appropriate places in the very near future before I start hitting SE problems.

stuntdubl did you ever find a global 301 redirect to fix this issue?
