• Hi. Recently I have been receiving many comments on my posts, and they are all spam. I thought the best way to prevent more spam from accumulating is to turn off comments on these specific posts (as it seems that only certain posts on my blog are vulnerable to spam).

However, these posts are still getting spam comments. What is going on? Are these not comments (I assume they are since I keep getting emailed that there are “Comments in Moderation”)? Is there another way to prevent these spam comments?

    Thanks.

  • Activate the Akismet plugin and use it. Then look for the area in your options page where you could list spam words, and list them. There is list of spam words somewhere on wordpress. Do a search. Akismet should take care of 99% of the problem though.

Also, if you turned comments off, there should be no way you’re getting more spam on those comments. So I don’t know…

Not entirely true! Most of that spam – although it looks like a comment – is trackback (TB) spam sent by automated scripts and they get in regardless of your settings because they go around it. So, as it was adviced above, use antispam plugins. Akismet, Bad Behavior, SpamKarma2 work well; usually, any two of them is a good choice.

yeah, I didn’t address it because thought you were talking only about comments, and not trackbacks.

I’ve had the same situation – and in my case, they have also been trackbacks. Isn’t there a way in WP to turn off trackbacks for certain posts???

There are antispam plugins that will let through the legitimate TB and filter the spam. What else do you need?
