Hello. I have some questions regarding the JetPack Comment.

First of all, the setting that I activated for Discussion Setting are:

    Comment:

    1. Let Visitors use a WP.com, Twitter, or FB account to comment; and
    2. Enable Comment Like

    Subsciption:

    1. Let Visitors subscribe to new posts and comments via e-mail
    2. Enable the “subscribe to site” option on your comment form
    3. Enable the “subscribe to comments” option on your comment form

    Now, to the problem.

    (1) When I tried to comment using a visitor account, I can log in to WP.com/Twitter/FB and can comment just fine, but if I move or refresh the page, my login information won’t be saved (before or after commenting) and I always need to relog even if I already logged in using a social media account before refreshing/moving page, or if I have ticked the “Save my name, email, and website in this browser for the next time I comment”.

As such, it only showed “notify me of new post via e-mail” and didn’t show me “notify me of new posts on web and Jetpack App via notifications.” if I freshly logged in using a visitor WP.com account to comment. While using my Admin account, I can see both because I am constantly logged in as an Admin.

    (2) The comment box only has “notify me of new post via e-mail” and no “notify me of follow-up comment via e-mail” even when I have activated both in the Subscription Setting. Referring to Problem (1), “notify me of new posts on web and Jetpack App via notifications” also won’t appear for a freshly logged-in WP.com account.

    (3) If I used a WP.com account to comment, I won’t get any notifications for comment replies or comment likes in my Notification. This applies to both Admin WP.com Account (in JetPack Connected Website and in WP.com) and Visitor WP.com Account (in WP.com).

When I check the toolbar in WP.com for my connected site (or the WP.com toolbar in my wp-admin), there aren’t any notifications for new comments or likes even though there are. Meanwhile, my visitor WP.com account in WP.com also doesn’t get any notification for replies or likes on the comments my visitor account made even though there are.

I thought JetPack Notifications will work as long as JetPack is connected to your website and will notify me of replies/likes if I am a visitor using WP.com to comment on the JetPack Connected Website; and of all comments/likes across the website if I am an Admin of said JetPack Connected Website?

All in all, thank you for your patience and help. Sorry for the long post.

    Hey there, @ryeuree.

I appreciate the detailed description of the issues you have provided. Thank you for taking the time to test and provide us with your feedback and insights. Let’s address each issue one by one.

I have tested and replicated this behavior on a test site. However, I need to confirm with the Jetpack developers whether this behavior is expected or if it’s a bug.

As such, it only showed “notify me of new post via e-mail” and didn’t show me “notify me of new posts on web and Jetpack App via notifications.” if I freshly logged in using a visitor WP.com account to comment. While using my Admin account, I can see both because I am constantly logged in as an Admin.

The message “notify me of new posts on web and Jetpack App via notifications” is only visible when you are logged in with a WordPress.com account. If you are logged in with a non-WordPress.com account, you will only see the message “notify me of new post via e-mail.” This is because the notification feature is a part of the WordPress.com account system and is not available for non-WordPress.com accounts. Therefore, only WordPress.com account users have access to this feature. Can you confirm if the issue persists when logged-in with a WordPress.com account?

The comment box only has “notify me of new post via e-mail” and no “notify me of follow-up comment via e-mail” even when I have activated both in the Subscription Setting.

Could you please check if this issue persists when using a default WordPress theme? Additionally, it would be helpful to see if there are any plugin conflicts that might be causing this issue. You can use the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin to test this without changing the theme or plugins. This will help us to rule out any possible conflicts that could be causing the issue.

If I used a WP.com account to comment, I won’t get any notifications for comment replies or comment likes in my Notification. This applies to both Admin WP.com Account (in JetPack Connected Website and in WP.com) and Visitor WP.com Account (in WP.com).

Can you please check if you have confirmed the subscription after leaving the comment using your WordPress.com account? Please check your email inbox for a message like this: https://d.pr/i/0rZNYw.

Can you please check if the comments are displayed in the Pending section here: https://wordpress.com/comments/pending/elysianpit.com?

I look forward to hearing back from you soon!

    Hi there, @ryeuree,

Do you have updates about that? We usually close inactive threads after one week of no movement, but we want to make sure we’re all set before marking it as solved. Thanks!
