Enabling users to create new discussions

  • HI all

    Im quite new to wordpress so if i have missed the obvious then my appologies but i have come up against a brick wall in anycase and could do with your help.

    I have created a web site using WP. I have a discussion page where all posts for a specific category are listed. User can click on any of the posts to view in full and add a comment if they wish
    WORKS FINE – BUT

    I want users to be able to create NEW discussions ( moderated ) and not just post comments against discussions created through admin

    I can not for the life of me figure how to enable this functionality.
    Could someone please help on this. Any help or guidance would be appreciated.

    I am not sure how you have created the discussion page. If you like users to create topic and discuss then you might have to use forum plugins (eg WP Forum Server). There are many forum plugins, you can just browse and find which suite to you.

    If you like you blog to be used as social network site, then probably you can install buddypress which will be like facebook.

    you can use tdo_mini_form or Gravity Forms(Paid) to create user generated blog posts.

    I think what i have done is attempted to create a forum ( as such ) using the blog functionality provided in WP which obviously would prevent such an action which initially i assumed would be available.

    Will check out yout suggestions.

    You can create a forum ( as such ) using the blog functionality provided in WP only. you just need a plugin like tdo_mini_form or Gravity Forms to accept front end post. that can be done by theme customization also.

    LOL Well thats what have done but I didnt use a plugin.

    Hey ho learn as we do. I figure this has thrown me right into how the blog is working given that i feel i have almost re written what was there lol
